Personal Background
Being born and raised in Bratislava, Slovakia (former Czechoslovakia), I have grown accustomed the value of efficiency which is still embedded in many of my choices from the car I drive to the website I design. The Austro-Hungarian Empire and then the Warsaw Pact was responsible for much of the design of the architecture where being a utilitarian was important. I started traveling and living in Western Europe and Northern Africa at the age of nine, and lived in both Tunisia and France before my twentieth birthday. I was captivated with all the different influences that were reflected in the art and architecture and how the environment played such an influential role in the creativity of everything.
Since moving to the United States, I´ve seen how many European styles melt together in a collage to be changed by only the environment, which has inspired me more than anything. I like to compare the differences from the Germanic styles from Salzburg, Austria to Northeast Portland to the styles in Carlsbad, California. Taking the exact same idea and creating it to meet multiple different problems, whether it was too much snow, rain or sun.
I plan to apply this to my work. A website should use a multiple of different variables to optimize its use whether a client want to use it for e-commerce or to post today´s lunch specials.
Design / Technical and Professional Background
My experience in the field of interactive media design goes back to late 90´s when I showed interest and motivation in learning more and become part of it. I have worked as a web developer for a University and an Embassy in Europe. I came to the United States to continue my education without limitations many Eastern European schools teaching technology has, but still maintaining that same sense of discipline instilled earlier in my life.
Design & Personal Work Goals
Someone once said, “What do you call a doctor that doesn´t have a job? Unemployed.” I feel the same way about websites. If it is the prettiest website out there with all the bells and whistles available, but it doesn´t attract business, it is still a poorly designed website. I believe that a well working code is the essential component to a successful website. I understand that a website is a tool first. I design every website using the principles of color theory and how the human eye perceives colors differently on a monitor than it would on print media before I even think of aesthetics. My personal work goal is to have every website to be like a finely made sports car, beautiful on the outside, but what sets in apart is the attention to detail not seen with the casual glance.
Target Audience
I´m targeting small businesses that see the potential and value that a quality website can provide them. The time of the novice website creator is fading away. Having a quality website is becoming the backbone to any marketing plan.
Inspirations
My surroundings, just like nature, inspire me, which reflects in my use of colors that acquire mostly earth tones. When it comes down to architecture, I like things nicely organized that makes sense for the end-user to navigate around. Art and traveling inspire me when it comes down to bringing in more variety of styles of design, approach and treatment of a design. Other people´s work brings more ideas, which at times can open a brand new range of possibilities in expanding the original idea that fits more within my style, or the style of a client. My life events also inspire me. Due to some of my past experiences, I like to utilize my skills and talents that demonstrate the happy, professional and mature side of me.
Interests
I like outdoors, traveling, skiing where I find myself to enjoy the beauty of the nature covered in white, which seems to give everything some simplicity and purity. All that helps me to relax and energize myself to start fresh again. I love to observe the world around me, listening to other people and enjoy life one day at a time.
