Personal Background
Being born and raised in Bratislava, Slovakia (former Czechoslovakia), I have grown accustomed the value of efficiency which is still embedded in many of my choices from the car I drive to the website I design. The Austro-Hungarian Empire and then the Warsaw Pact was responsible for much of the design of the architecture where being a utilitarian was important. I started traveling and living in Western Europe and Northern Africa at the age of nine, and lived in both Tunisia and France before my twentieth birthday. I was captivated with all the different influences that were reflected in the art and architecture and how the environment played such an influential role in the creativity of everything.
Since moving to the United States, I´ve seen how many European styles melt together in a collage to be changed by only the environment, which has inspired me more than anything. I like to compare the differences from the Germanic styles from Salzburg, Austria to Northeast Portland to the styles in Carlsbad, California. Taking the exact same idea and creating it to meet multiple different problems, whether it was too much snow, rain or sun.
